TRAINING ACTIVITIES

The SECENTIS training program stems from a carefully selected set of research activities aiming at devising cutting-edge solutions that will improve the security of the next generation of Enterprise Information Systems and Process Management solutions. To this end the ESRs will complement their university training with an exposure to entrepreneurship and innovation bestpractices, advances scientific training, hands-on training on latest technologies, and a working experience in a world-leading ICT company.

For this reason the training programme of the SECENTIS project stems from the combination of a variety of training activities (that could varies for each ESR depending on his/her needs) :

  1. Training on entrepreneurship and innovation

  2. PhD at he ICT International Doctoral School of UNITN

  3. Secondment at SAP

  4. Additional Activities

 1. Training on entrepreneurship and innovation

Preliminary to the start of the PhD, the ESRs have completed a 2 months training phase on Entrepreneurship and Innovation that was supervised by Trento RISE. The objective was to help them to achieve an entrepreneurial mindset and an innovation-oriented attitude.
Here there is a list of the activities followed by each ESRs:

  • Bolzano StartUp weekend. During this event the 5 ESRs teamed up with other participants, developed innovative ideas and pitched them in front of a jury of experts. Before this event, Trento Rise prepared the ESRs giving them some entrepreneurial notions tuned for non-Economy students. An in depth description of this experience is available here.
  • International Entrepreneurship course held by Vittorino Filippas (Trento RISE). It aims to give an inside-out, hands-on entrepreneurial perspective about international multicultural business.
  • Start Up Lab seminars held by Vittorino Filippas and Slava Kozlov. The SUL is an innovative learning environment focused on creativity, idea generation and Business Idea optimization finalized to develop innovative products/services which can, eventually, turn into a start-up. The objective of the Lab is to help students developing an entrepreneurial approach.

The last 2 courses have been organized at the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Trento (DEM) in collaboration with Trento Rise.

2. PhD at he ICT International Doctoral School of UNITN

At the ICT International Doctoral School of the University of Trento the ESRs have the opportunity to receive formal training on a variety of advanced ICT topics. It lasts 3 years. The first year is mainly devoted to the acquisition of scientific knowledge at both basic and high level. Classes at the ICT International Doctoral School of UNITN have started in December 2013 and  the courses chosen so far by some of the 5 ESRs are:

3. Secondment at SAP

The ESRs are foreseen to stay in SAP Lab France for half of the 3 years of their research activities. This period will be split in different secondments. The stay in SAP aims to give them hand-on experience on industrial-strength technologies and products. During their secondments at SAP, the ESRs will also develop prototype implementations of their research ideas in the SAP Application Infrastructure and will assess them against case studies of industrial complexity.

4. Additional Activities

The 5 ESRs have been taking hands-on classes on SAP Application Infrastructure through "openSAP" that is a platform for open online courses on key SAP topics:

During their secondment in France, they have the possibility to undergo additional formal training at Eurécom. Hereinafter the courses attended in the first year of the project:

Furthermore, the project will give several opportunities to reinforce the communication skills through participation in the project meetings and the writing of papers that will be submitted and presented to relevant scientific events.

Finally, each ESR will actively participate in the management of the workpackage associated with their research project. This will give them the opportunity to have a first-hand experience in project management under the supervision of research personnel with considerable experience in R&D projects.
